FAQs - Frequently Asked Questions
What Should I Expect For My First Appointment?
The initial consultation first involves a discussion of your goals, current complaint/s and medical history. This is followed by a physical examination (including orthopaedic & neurological testing if required) which involves assessing joint range of motion, postural analysis, strength testing and palpation of the musculoskeletal system.
Once assessed we will discuss your diagnosis with you and work together with you to develop a management plan. Treatment may include soft tissue massage, myofascial cupping, gentle joint manipulation, dry needling and exercise therapy.
At the conclusion of your treatment we will walk you through your management plan which may include exercises, stretches and lifestyle modifications.
If your Osteopath believes further investigation is required, we may refer you off to the appropriate services.
What should I wear and bring to my appointment?
Please bring any relevant medical history and scans into the appointment
We suggest that you wear comfortable clothes that are easy to move around in.
As osteopathy involves hands on assessment & treatment, you may be required to remove certain items of clothing. Please note that you DO NOT have to remove clothing if you are uncomfortable, just speak with your practitioner!
How many sessions will I need?
The number of treatments required vary depending on the nature of the complaint. Individuals requiring pain relief/symptom management may only require 1–3 treatments, whereas other complex/chronic complaints or those looking to work towards improving their physical wellbeing will require more regular sessions.
Private health insurance
Osteopathy is covered by most private health insurance companies.
The amount that is covered will vary depending on which fund you are with and your level of cover. For more information please contact your health insurer and quote for 1804 Initial appointment and 1802 for Return Consultations.
Claims can be processed on the day – please remember to bring your private health card along with you to your appointment.
Do I need a referral from a GP?
No. You do not need a referral from a GP to attend an osteopathy appointment.
Medicare Plans
If you suffer from a chronic health condition your GP may have recommended you be placed on a Chronic Disease Management Plan (CDM) for Osteopathy.
Unfortunately, we do NOT bulk bill for these Medicare plans. CDMs cover a rebate of $58 (as of July 2023), and there will be a gap fee required to pay.
We ask that you pay your appointment with us at the time of consultation. We can process your Medicare rebate on the same day via our HICAPs machine if you have an EFTPOS card attached to a savings or cheque account (not credit card account). If you do not have a savings or cheque account with you, we can issue a receipt which you can use to claim directly from Medicare.
WorkCover / Transport Accident Commission (TAC)
Unfortunately we do not accept any WorkCover or Transport Accident Commision (TAC) clients.
